... (http://5b4.blogspot.com) – one starts to get an idea of how contagious and exciting this medium is becoming on
the international arena. The renowned experts that we invited – critics, photographers, publicists and
curators as well as booksellers and collectors – were asked to nominate their favorite book of the previous
year and to justify their choice via a personal statement. We invited a completely new jury, aiming at
the broadest possible international representation, only with the exception of Gerry Badger and Martin
Parr, who already took part last year. You will find all of this year’s nominated books in the volume at
hand. This catalog reflects varied and, depending on the locality, very different photographic points of
views. It shows vividly how well the photobook medium works as a concentrated viewpoint of the respective
author. Be it a catalog or monograph, or a magazine in book form, be it paperback or hardcover,
be it extra-large format or something smaller: All publications have in common that the book form has
provided an especially intensive photographic expression. Let it grab and fascinate you! We are happy
that this project has again generated such a positive response, and would like to sincerely thank all the
participants.
