Dieses Buch, herausgegeben von dem mexikanischen Verleger RM, ist ein ziemlich seltsames Werk. Wir in
den lateinamerikanischen Ländern haben die Tendenz, uns eher an lokales Material zu halten. Jeff Wall
hatte im Museo Tamayo in Mexico City eine Ausstellung von 16 seiner übergroßen Abzüge. Der Herausgeber
hatte die Idee, die Größenverhältnisse der Bilder in der Ausstellung bestehen zu lassen. Ein großformatiges
Buch wäre geeignet, dem Rechnung zu tragen und wäre außerdem etwas völlig Neues unter den
Büchern des bekannten kanadischen Künstlers. Die typografische Gestaltung war gradlinig und modern
gedacht, als Echo der Bilder sozusagen. Jeff Wall mochte das Projekt, und ein paar Monate später waren
wir dann ganz überrascht, dieses große Buch zu sehen. Es ist gar nicht schwer und lässt sich recht schnell
durchblättern. Meiner Meinung nach ist dies ein wunderbares, gut gestaltetes Fotobuch, groß und doch
recht knapp, mit Bildern von einem sehr einflussreichen Künstler.
This book, edited by Editorial RM Mexico, is a rather strange publication. In Latin American
countries, we tend to focus more on local material. Jeff Wall had a show of 16 of his very large prints at
the Museo Tamayo in Mexico City. RM suggested doing a large book with all the pictures in the show. The
Editor’s idea was to keep the relationship between the size of each print in the show. A large format book
would take account of the sizes of the prints and would be a novelty among the books on this famous Canadian
Artist. The typographic Design was to be kept clean, neat and modern, thus echoing the pictures.
Jeff Wall liked the project, and some months later we where surprised to see this big book, which is not
heavy and which you can go through rather quickly. I would say this is a great, nicely Designed, large but
brief photographic book of works by a highly influential Artist.
