»Sacred Wood«

In seiner Heimat Korea ist der Fotograf Bae, Bien-U längst als Meister seines Faches bekannt. Sein nun erstmals in Europa erscheinendes Buch „Sacred Wood“ ist der Kiefer gewidmet, die für die Koreaner das Symbol für Leben und Beständigkeit darstellt. Dieser Baum symbolisiert die Verwurzelung mit der Erde ebenso wie den Kontakt zum Himmel — und der Wald als Ort der Stille avanciert zu einer Kathedrale der Kontemplation. Mit der Kiefer überträgt Bae, Bien-U eines der populärsten Motive der traditionellen Landschaftsmalerei in die Fotografie und geht dabei weit über die Naturfotografie hinaus. Seine großartigen Bilder werden durch ein Buch geadelt, das schon aufgrund der detailverliebten Machart (hochwertiges Papier, zweiteiliger Schuber etc.) das Potential zum Sammlerstück hat. In his home country Korea, the Photographer Bae, Bien-U has long been recognized as a master in his field. His book “Sacred Wood”, published in Europe for the first time, is devoted to the pine tree, which for Koreans represents life and permanency. This tree symbolizes rootedness with the earth as much as contact with the sky — while the forest as a place of silence advances to the rank of a cathedral of contemplation. By using the pine tree, Bae, Bien-U transfers one of the most popular motives of traditional landscape painting to Photography, and thereby far surpasses nature Photography. His extraordinary images are being ennobled through a book which, based on its detailed workmanship (high quality paper, two-piece Slipcase, etc.), has already the potential to become a collector’s item. The saying “becoming one with nature” moves with this small complete artwork into a completely new dimension.
